Kay Kay Menon is set to play a laid-back headmaster in the upcoming comedy-drama series 'Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya', premiering on 24 July. The actor says his character, Gyaneshwar Tripathi, is riddled with flaws yet possesses a sharp instinct and an uncanny ability to turn chaotic situations to his advantage.

A Character Unlike Any Before

Menon, who has built a career on portraying intelligence officers, politicians, and criminals, says this role marks fresh territory for him. 'Over the years, I have had the chance to play all kinds of characters — from intelligence officers and politicians to criminals — but I have never played a headmaster before,' he said.

That novelty was the first hook. What deepened his interest was the script's portrayal of Gyaneshwar as a genuinely relatable, multi-layered individual. 'He is not perfect and has many flaws, but he is also sharp, intuitive, and knows how to turn situations to his advantage,' Menon explained. He also credited director Himank Gaur's clarity and his co-actors' support as essential to bringing the character to life.

The Story at the Heart of Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya

The seven-episode series follows Gyaneshwar as he attempts to transform one of Tinki Toli's most dysfunctional schools. The stakes rise when he discovers that the headmasters of the ten Delhi schools with the best board results will earn a government-sponsored training programme in Cambridge. Navigating eccentric teachers, spirited students, and overenthusiastic parents, Gyaneshwar's unconventional methods become the school's unlikely lifeline.

The show is directed by Himank Gaur, created and executive produced by Biswapati Sarkar and Sameer Saxena under the banner of Posham Pa Pictures. The writing team comprises Biswapati Sarkar, Akshay Asthana, Nupur Pai, Tatsat Pandey, and Meghna Srivastava.

What the Cast Said

Archana Puran Singh, who plays the bold and fiercely ambitious Urmila Devi, said the show's writing was what drew her in. 'It is a story filled with humour, heart, and characters that feel incredibly authentic,' she said, adding that Urmila's unapologetic personality made her 'an absolute joy to portray.' Singh also noted that sharing the screen with Menon was a highlight of the experience.

Director Gaur reflected on the show's emotional core, saying much of what viewers see stems from 'the core memories we all carry from our school days — the friendships, mischief, the teachers, and those everyday moments that stay with you long after you've left the classroom.'

The series also features Abhimanyu Singh, Naveen Kasturia, Prasanna Bisht, Deven Bhojani, Ajitesh Gupta, Annapurna Soni, and Prachee Shah in lead roles.
