Abhimanyu Singh on 'Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya': Playing a strict teacher is a different responsibility
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actor Abhimanyu Singh has spoken candidly about the emotional weight of portraying a strict teacher in the upcoming Prime Video series 'Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya', describing the role as unlike anything he has taken on before. The 7-episode show, directed by Himank Gaur, is set to premiere on 24 July 2026.
What Abhimanyu Singh said about the role
Singh, who has previously played intense and authoritative figures across several major productions, said this particular character demanded a deeper emotional understanding. “I’ve played many intense and authoritative characters throughout my career, but portraying a strict teacher comes with a very different kind of responsibility. My character believes that discipline isn’t about fear, it’s about preparing students to face life with confidence, integrity, and resilience,” he said.
He added that the character’s tough exterior conceals a genuine investment in his students’ growth. “He may come across as tough, but every decision he makes is driven by a genuine desire to bring out the best in his students. I think we’ve all had that one teacher we feared in school, only to realize later that they were the ones who shaped us the most. That’s the essence of this character, and I hope audiences connect with it,” Singh said.
Kay Kay Menon on playing a headmaster for the first time
Kay Kay Menon plays the role of the laid-back headmaster Gyaneshwar Tripathi in the series — a first for the veteran actor. “Over the years, I have had the chance to play all kinds of characters — from intelligence officers and politicians to criminals — but I have never played a headmaster before,” Menon said.
He described the character as flawed yet sharp. “At the same time, there’s a goodness to him that makes him very human. These different layers made the role so interesting for me. Bringing a character like Gyaneshwar to life would not have been possible without Himank’s clarity and direction, along with the incredible support of my co-actors,” he added.
The ensemble cast and what to expect
Beyond Singh and Menon, 'Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya' features an ensemble that includes Gyaneshwar Tripathi, Archana Puran Singh, Naveen Kasturia, Deven Bhojani, and Prasanna Bisht, among others. The series is directed by Himank Gaur and will stream exclusively on Prime Video from 24 July 2026.
Abhimanyu Singh’s recent work
Singh brings considerable screen presence to the role, having appeared in high-profile projects including 'Devara — Part 1', 'Bachchhan Paandey', 'The Kandahar Hijack', 'Inspector Avinash', and 'Khakee: The Bihar Chapter'. His casting as a disciplinarian teacher represents a notable tonal shift from his typically edgier roles.
With its school setting, multi-layered characters, and a premiere date fast approaching, 'Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya' is shaping up as one of Prime Video’s more character-driven Indian originals of mid-2026.
