Los Angeles, May 19 (NationPress) Hollywood actress Kristen Stewart, who recently made her directorial debut with “The Chronology of Water”, aspires for her film to catalyze a transformation in the film industry.
The 35-year-old actress aims for her biographical drama to motivate more production companies to delve into female-driven narratives, according to reports from ‘Female First UK’.
During a panel discussion at Deadline's Cannes Film Festival studio, Kristen remarked, “We broke the seal. Hopefully, we can start flooding, gushing into view”.
Kristen pointed out that audiences have long been fed “prescribed stories”, stating, “We get prescribed stories just shoved into our faces, down our throats”.
She expressed her discontent with the representation of women in cinema, noting, “The imagery that we consume, the conversations that are not allowed, the fact that we can’t tell people when we’re bleeding, like it’s gross or something”.
According to ‘Female First UK’, “The Chronology of Water” is adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch's memoir. Imogen Poots, who portrays the film's lead, has shared her enthusiasm for joining the project.
Poots remarked, “You just don’t read things like that. Or if you do read scripts like that, they’re not getting made. And so it was just this living, breathing document. It was just such a miracle that we ended up making this film. It’s extraordinary”.
Additionally, Kristen disclosed that directing has always been her aspiration. She has contemplated directing since the inception of her acting career, patiently waiting for the ideal project.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kristen mentioned, “I think I asked a couple of actors on one of my very early projects [about] the youngest director they could stomach working with. And I was sat down by most of them and asked, 'Why are you even asking us that question?'”.
She reflected, “I had to wait until right now for this to be actualized, because there are portals that set you free. Texts or songs or conversations that give you ways into figuring out how you want to wield your voice. And even though I always knew that I was waiting for that trigger, I hadn’t found it yet until ('The Chronology of Water'). This was eight years ago”.
Kristen shared that achieving her directorial debut was a “slow and laborious” journey. However, the Twilight franchise star embraced the challenges of directing, stating, “I’ve wanted to direct movies as long as I have been an actor and it’s been a multi-tiered development. But for some reason, psychotically, I’ve wanted to do it forever, because I do think the exchange between an actor and a director is a bridge between two very different positions”.
