Reflecting on their initial encounter, Kunickaa mentioned that they met unexpectedly in Ooty, where she was attending to professional responsibilities while Sanu was vacationing with family. During a dinner gathering, Kumar Sanu became intoxicated and revealed feelings of depression and suicidal thoughts. It was his sister, nephew, and Kunickaa who provided him support, helping him find solace. This emotional exchange soon evolved into a committed relationship, leading Kumar Sanu to relocate to an apartment near Kunickaa's home.

The two began sharing meals, and she assisted him in achieving fitness goals. They chose to maintain their relationship's privacy out of respect for his family.
