Los Angeles, Oct 18 (NationPress) Actress-singer Lily Allen revealed that she was once engulfed by feelings of despair and even contemplated suicide after discovering that her husband, David Harbour, known for his role in ‘Stranger Things’, had been involved in a secret three-year affair.
The couple publicly ended their marriage in December, as reported by ‘Mirror.co.uk’. During this tumultuous period, Lily found herself dangerously close to a relapse. In an interview with ‘Vogue’ leading up to her new album release, she disclosed that she checked herself into rehab, feeling as if she “wanted to die.”
Upon learning of her husband's infidelity, which began shortly after their Las Vegas wedding in September 2020, Lily chose to steer clear of alcohol and drugs, which had previously been her coping mechanisms.
She expressed, “The feelings of despair that I was experiencing were so overwhelming. The last time I faced such emotions, substances were my escape, so it was agonizing to confront those [feelings] without resorting to them.”
According to ‘Mirror.co.uk’, this prompted Lily, now aged 40, to courageously enter rehab to resist the urge to revert to her old habits in order to cope with her heartbreak.
She continued, “I’ve been in those facilities before against my will, and I see that as a sign of progress. That’s strength. I recognized that my feelings were too intense to handle alone, and I thought, ‘I need some time away.’”
When she decided to enter rehab, Lily candidly admitted that it was due to her feeling “that I wanted to die.” The singer has been open about her troubled relationship with food over the years, and during this breakup, she mentioned that her struggles intensified dramatically.
“The feelings of despair that I was experiencing were so strong. The last time I felt anything like that, drugs and alcohol were my way out, so it was excruciating to sit with those [feelings] and not to use them,” she elaborated.
