Los Angeles, May 25 (NationPress) Actress Lily Allen is making comparisons between the decision to step away from social media and withdrawing from drugs.
The 40-year-old singer and actress is now two weeks into her ban from social media platforms, and she admitted that she initially felt incredibly low for the first time in months. This feeling comes after she has faced emotional struggles following her separation from 50-year-old actor David Harbour in 2024, according to ‘Female First UK’.
The 'Lost My Mind' hitmaker described how she experienced a profoundly heavy wave of sadness and loneliness after giving up social media. Lily acknowledged that the absence of the dopamine fix from scrolling for two weeks contributed to her initial feelings of deep sadness.
During her conversation on the 'Miss Me?' podcast with her friend Miquita Oliver, Lily, who resides in New York with her two daughters, Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 12, from her previous marriage to 47-year-old Sam Cooper, said, “At the beginning of last week, I felt incredibly low, lower than I had in months. It was a different kind of sadness, a heaviness, and loneliness. I realized that maybe it was because I wasn’t scrolling anymore.”
She added, “Now I have time for reflection. I’m busy with errands, preparing meals for the girls, and meeting friends for lunch. But in terms of work, there’s not much happening. I found myself scrolling on Instagram, seeking that dopamine rush, and without it for nearly two weeks, I felt really sad.”
“I think I was experiencing withdrawal symptoms from it. It felt horrible, almost like withdrawing from drugs. It was an eye-opening moment for me,” she concluded.
Lily previously mentioned her goal of becoming “less narcissistic” in 2025 and took a mental health break from the 'Miss Me?' podcast earlier this year due to feeling overwhelmed and suffering from panic attacks during a tough period.
