The makers of the upcoming Tamil period biopic GDN unveiled actor Sathyaraj's character look on Thursday, 6 August, revealing he plays Ramaiah Pillai in the film directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar. The announcement, made just one day before the film's worldwide theatrical release on 7 August, has generated fresh excitement among fans ahead of what is shaping up to be one of Tamil cinema's most anticipated biopics of the year.

Production house Varghese Moolans Pictures shared Sathyaraj's look on its official Instagram page, accompanied by the caption: 'Introducing #Sathyaraj as Ramaiah Pillai. The reveal adds another layer to the film's ensemble, which has been unveiled in stages over recent weeks to build anticipation.

Earlier character looks disclosed by the makers include Jayaram as Ambalapara Krishnan, Vinay Rai as Bhupendra, and Dushara Vijayan as Ranganayaki. Karunakaran plays a character named Perunkili, while Aditi Balan portrays Padmavathi. The makers also previously released the looks of actress Sheela as the young Chellamal and actor Teejay Arunasalam as the young G D Naidu.

The trailer opens with a provocative claim that GD Naidu, in his old age, had 'gone mad' after bombing his own building, before tracing back through his rise. An Englishman is heard asking, 'Who the hell is this fakir?' — a line that sets the tone for the colonial-era conflict at the heart of the narrative.

Jayaram's character, Ambalapara Krishnan, emerges as a formidable antagonist — questioning GD Naidu's tax practices and orchestrating searches of his premises on fabricated claims of counterfeit currency printing. Vinay Rai's character is seen instructing a British official to 'soil the books,' suggesting a coordinated effort to undermine GD Naidu's reputation.

The trailer further reveals that the British government levelled treason charges against GD Naidu, alleging he was conducting business with the Nazis — a charge framed as a political weapon rather than a factual accusation. Despite these pressures, the film portrays GD Naidu as a consistent and honest taxpayer who only pushed back when taxes became unjust.
