Madhu Chopra Discusses a Lingering Regret About Priyanka Chopra

Mumbai, Nov 30 (NationPress) Madhu Chopra, the mother of Priyanka Chopra, has opened up about a profound regret that she still contemplates to this day.
During her appearance on the "Something Bigger Talk Show" podcast hosted by Rodrigo Canelas, she expressed her remorse over sending her daughter, the internationally renowned star, to boarding school at the tender age of seven.
The actress’ mother shared, “I often wonder, was I a harsh mother? I find myself regretting this decision. It still brings me to tears. It was challenging for me as well... However, every Saturday, I made it a point to leave my work and take a train just to visit her.”
“This routine was disrupting her adjustment to the boarding school. Each Saturday, she would eagerly await my arrival, and I would spend Sunday with her. However, the teachers advised me, ‘You need to stop coming. It’s not allowed’.”
Upon reflecting on this, Madhu concluded that this choice brings both pride and sorrow.
“That’s one decision I regret, but ultimately, Priyanka has found her footing.”
Madhu further reminisced about a bittersweet segment of Priyanka’s journey as Miss World. “Even after achieving the remarkable title of Millennium Miss World, her home state, Uttar Pradesh, seemed reluctant to embrace her,” as indicated in the podcast’s Instagram caption.
She elaborated, “There was a prevailing notion that beauty pageants were merely platforms for 'nari social', which objectified women. Many believed these contests were detrimental. Yet, she triumphed on the world stage. Still, Uttar Pradesh wasn’t ready to celebrate her.”
Madhu noted that a prominent newspaper faced challenges in securing permission for Priyanka’s homecoming, which created limitations.
“Eventually, they permitted her to visit only within the army area, hosting her welcome event solely at an army club with only army personnel in attendance, excluding civilians. Winning such a prestigious title for the country was significant, especially as she was heralded as the millennium winner, which was monumental.”
“Numerous articles were penned about her. Yet, her own state didn’t embrace her as one would expect. Regardless, she remained unfazed.”
