Mumbai, Oct 25 (NationPress) Actor Manoj Bajpayee acknowledged that the historical drama "Pinjar" occupies a significant position in his cinematic journey, as the film celebrated its 22nd anniversary on Friday.
Sharing moments from the Chandraprakash Dwivedi directed film on his Instagram, Bajpayee emphasized that although it did not secure any mainstream accolades, it earned two National Awards - 'Best Feature Film on National Integration' and a 'Special Jury Award' for himself.
The 'Satya' star wrote on the photo-sharing platform, "Two decades and two years ago, Pinjar was released, and this film holds a special significance in my journey. It may not have received any mainstream awards, but it won two National Film Awards, including my second one (sic)."
Bajpayee noted that "Pinjar" addressed the human toll of the division between two neighboring nations.
"Adapted from the renowned Amrita Pritam’s novel, it emphasized unity, inclusivity, and the human cost associated with division. The ongoing love for the film is incredibly meaningful to me. I am thankful to the amazing team, co-actors, and everyone who contributed to making this journey unforgettable. #22YearsOfPinjar," he added.
In addition to Bajpayee, the cast includes Urmila Matondkar, Sanjay Suri, Sandali Sinha, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Isha Koppikar, and Farida Jalal in pivotal roles, among others.
The film highlights the Hindu-Muslim conflict during India’s partition. Based on a Punjabi novel of the same name by Amrita Pritam, it narrates the story of a Hindu woman who is abducted in the lead-up to Partition. Forced into marriage, she finds herself in a new country.
