Director Chad Stahelski, known for his work on ‘John Wick’, will helm the project for Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists (UA), under the leadership of former Netflix film executive Scott Stuber, according to reports from ‘Variety’.

This cinematic adaptation will be released in theaters. The screenplay is being crafted by Michael Finch, drawing inspiration from the iconic 1980s film of the same name. Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt from UA will work alongside Neal H. Moritz, 87Eleven Entertainment, Stahelski’s production company, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner to produce the film. UA has obtained full rights to the original 1986 film and is considering developing a new series as well. The film was initially developed by Lionsgate.

Per ‘Variety’, Abela recently received a 2025 BAFTA TV Award for her role in the acclaimed series ‘Industry’.

The film gradually gained a larger following after its release, leading to several sequels, a television series, and a dedicated fanbase. Directed by Russell Mulcahy, it was produced by Peter S. Davis and William N. Panzer.

To date, there have been four theatrical installments of ‘Highlander’, a made-for-TV movie, two live-action series, an animated series, an anime film, and a variety of novels, comics, and merchandise. The main character, Connor MacLeod, hails from the Scottish Highlands and is one of several immortals who draw power from a force known as the Quickening. Over the years, additional immortal characters from the MacLeod clan have emerged, including Duncan MacLeod, Quentin MacLeod, and Colin MacLeod, each with their own unique timelines.
