Actress Mithila Palkar has opened up about her role in the upcoming Netflix series 'Super Subbu', describing her character as one that walks a fine line between comedy and authentic human feeling. The trailer for the show dropped on Wednesday, 24 June, offering audiences their first look at the quirky world of Maakipur.

What Super Subbu Is About

The series centres on Subramanyam 'Subbu' Chillukuri Rao, a teacher posted to Maakipur — a notorious, entirely fictitious village that no educator would willingly choose. Determined to maintain his dignity before his family, Subbu arrives ready to teach, only to be handed the village's most uncomfortable assignment: a sex education class. The show also stars Sundeep Kishan and Murali Sharma in key roles.

What Mithila Palkar Said About Her Character

Speaking about her role, Palkar said, 'What drew me to Super Subbu was the way it balances humour with genuine human emotions. Beneath all the chaos, curiosity and laughter, there is a story about relationships, acceptance and people learning to understand each other better. The world that Mallik Ram has created feels unique, vibrant and full of life, and every character brings something memorable to the journey.'

Palkar also reflected on her association with Netflix, noting that the platform holds special significance for her. 'Collaborating with Netflix always feels like a homecoming,' she said. 'I was a part of one of their first Netflix originals, Little Things, to now being a part of their first Telugu original, Super Subbu — our association seems to have come full circle. I'm excited for audiences across the world to discover the charm of Maakipur.'

Sundeep Kishan on Playing Subbu

Lead actor Sundeep Kishan described the character of Subbu as someone perpetually in over his head. 'Super Subbu takes a subject that people often hesitate to talk about and approaches it with humour, warmth and honesty,' he said. 'Subbu is someone who starts out trying to solve one problem and somehow ends up with five more. From job setbacks and relationship troubles to trying to save face with his father and unintentionally getting on the wrong side of the villagers, he's constantly in trouble.'

Kishan added that what makes the character endearing is his persistent good intent. 'What makes him so endearing is that he always means well, even when everything is spiralling out of control. Maakipur is filled with eccentric characters and every misunderstanding adds to the chaos and comedy, keeping you wondering how Subbu will get himself out of it.'

The Creative Team and Release Date

Written by Mallik Ram, Ramesh Eligeti, and Shivani Dhobal, and produced by Rajiv Chilaka and Bharath Laxmipati under Chilaka Productions, the series blends small-town chaos, heart, and comedy into what the makers describe as a coming-of-age story. Notably, 'Super Subbu' marks Netflix India's first Telugu original series — a milestone that both Palkar and Kishan highlighted as making the project especially meaningful. The show streams from 2 July on Netflix.
