Mumbai, April 2 (NationPress) The anticipated film 'Abir Gulaal', featuring Vaani Kapoor alongside Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, is facing significant controversy as the regional political party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has openly challenged the film's producers regarding its release.
The main issue revolves around Fawad Khan's involvement, with MNS asserting that this casting contradicts an agreement established during a meeting with the producers’ guild and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with their party president Raj Thackeray back in 2016.
Ameya Khopkar, the leader of the chitrapat wing of MNS, addressed the media, stating that they would obstruct the film's theatrical release.
He declared, “We have been protesting against this film, and against Pakistani artists and films. This will not change. No film featuring Pakistani artists will be allowed to release here. I challenge you to proceed with the release. In 2016, we had an agreement with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Raj Thackeray was also present.”
He continued, “Several producer associations were part of that discussion. We agreed that films featuring Pakistani artists would not be produced here. The producers' association even sent a letter to Devendra Fadnavis. Now, I dare the creators of 'Abir Gulaal' to release the film here in Maharashtra.”
This statement harkens back to the controversy surrounding the 2016 film 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil', directed by Karan Johar, which faced opposition from MNS after rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the Uri terror attack on Indian forces.
