Mumbai, Aug 13 (NationPress) Actor Mukesh Rishi, who portrays Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq in the newly launched streaming series ‘Salakaar’, revealed that his military background significantly aided his understanding of the narrative within ‘Salakaar’.
The series follows an Indian spy assigned a mission in Pakistan, exploring the complexities of his professional and personal existence.
Mukesh was captivated by the storyline, which compelled him to join the project. He remarked, “Upon hearing the plot, I found it intriguing. The extensive research conducted by director Faruk Kabir and his thorough preparation motivated me to collaborate with him on this venture. His professionalism and commitment to the project were appealing.”
In the series, Mukesh takes on the role of the Pakistani military dictator, Zia-ul-Haq, a pivotal figure in many of India’s challenges. Zia was the second dictator of Pakistan following General Ayub Khan. He was instrumental in executing Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s strategy of “Bleed India by a thousand cuts,” a long-term conflict declared against India for Pakistan's interests. Ultimately, Zia orchestrated the framing of Bhutto, leading to his execution approved by biased judges.
Discussing his preparation for the character of Zia, he stated, “I conducted some online research. My army background gives me a foundational understanding of military life, which was beneficial. We focused on specific costumes and attire, and since my character is from Pakistan, we referred to available photographs and studied their mannerisms.”
When asked about what he enjoyed most about the series, he shared, “After years in the industry, I’ve learned that each episode must be compelling. The narrative should be concise enough to keep the audience engaged without dragging on.”
“I know nearly everyone in the cast; they are incredibly talented actors, and their presence enhances the series. It's not solely about how much we've collaborated but also about the quality of their individual performances. I believe they have all delivered outstanding work,” he added.
Produced by Sphereorigins, 'Salakaar' is now available for streaming on JioHotstar.
