Veteran actress and activist Nafisa Ali, despite fighting stage 4 cancer, continues to champion humanity, secular values, and compassion — and is, in the words of filmmaker Padmakumar, 'crying for the India that was.' The director made these remarks ahead of the release of their upcoming film 'Max, Min and Meowzaki', set to hit screens on 24 July.

Padmakumar on Nafisa Ali's Spirit

Speaking in an exclusive conversation, Padmakumar described Nafisa Ali as a living embodiment of positivity and resilience. 'Nafisa embodies spirit, positivity and all the right values. She's an activist, and she's an activist for the right reasons. She's like the most secular human being you'll ever find, and she is crying for the India that was,' the director said.

He added that the film brought together individuals who share a common belief in humanity and a vision of the world rooted in love and compassion. 'Everybody who's on this film has this need for humanity to function in a unitary manner because we are all one. Nafisa is pretty much the embodiment of that person. She's incredible, very inspiring and very uplifting,' Padmakumar said.

On the Sets: Laughter and Childlike Energy

Padmakumar recalled that Nafisa Ali's playful energy transformed the atmosphere on set. 'She would play pranks, make jokes and pull somebody's leg. She was absolutely childlike, and that completely changed the atmosphere on the set,' he said. Despite the weight of her health battle, her sense of humour reportedly kept the entire cast and crew in high spirits throughout the shoot.

About 'Max, Min and Meowzaki'

The film, directed by Padmakumar, features an ensemble cast including Siddharth Menon, Vidharti Bandi, Adil Hussain, Mandira Bedi, Nassar, and Nafisa Ali in pivotal roles. It is slated for release on 24 July. According to the director, the confluence of like-minded cast and crew members was not entirely coincidental — it reflected a shared worldview.
