Mumbai, June 16 (NationPress) Actress Neha Dhupia expressed her gratitude to the creators of R Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh's film Aap Jaisa Koi for challenging the patriarchal mindset, scene by scene and dialogue by dialogue.
In her Instagram stories, Dhupia praised the film's cast for redefining love, stating, "I adored @aapjaisakoi... thank you for dismantling the patriarchy with each dialogue and scene... congrats #viveksoni @karanjohar @apoorvaa1972 and all the remarkable performances... well done everyone... congratulations @actormaddy @fatimasanashaikh @ayeshiraza @namitdas #ManishChaudhari and the entire cast and crew..."
Karan Johar, sharing her post on his own Instagram stories, responded with "Neha" followed by four red heart emojis.
Directed by Vivek Soni, Aap Jaisa Koi tells the unique love story of Shrirenu Tripathi (played by Madhavan), a reserved middle-aged Sanskrit professor, and Madhu Bose (played by Fatima), an enthusiastic French teacher.
The film features a middle-aged couple, portrayed by Manish Chaudhari and Ayesha Raza, to highlight the underlying misogynistic attitudes that stem from the belief that men own their wives, rather than viewing them as equals.
In a pivotal moment, Bhanu Tripathi declares, "We are educating our daughter. We are allowing her to work. I respect my wife. Is there any other husband in Jamshedpur who permits his wife to work at this age?" He genuinely feels he is offering a woman everything she needs for a fulfilling life. However, his wife, Kusum, provides a stark reality check.
She replies, "Who are you to grant permission? You may control the business and the home, but not a person's self-respect."
Aap Jaisa Koi was released on Netflix on July 11.
