Mumbai, Jan 27 (NationPress) Producer Nivedita Basu has recently expressed her views on the increasing trend of actors opting for OTT platforms over traditional daily soaps.
She pointed out that the choice of medium should not influence an actor's decisions as long as they stay true to their artistic integrity. Basu, who has been part of numerous successful television shows, underscored the necessity of maintaining authenticity in one's craft, whether in a conventional TV series or a digital production.
Nivedita, now serving as the Vice President of Fiction at Dangal TV, remarked, “The medium is inconsequential. I often relay this to actors. They feel confined, believing they must forsake daily soaps to enter the world of films and OTT. However, I don’t believe such boundaries exist anymore. This is an outdated notion. A talented actor who is genuine to their artistic essence can excel in any format.”
She also highlighted the significance of versatility in the current industry landscape. “I’ve observed that some actors tend to avoid daily soaps to chase other formats, yet they overlook the vast audience and affection that television provides. If you are committed to your craft, the platform is secondary,” Nivedita elaborated.
Discussing Dangal TV’s objectives, Basu stated, “Dangal TV caters to an audience seeking accessible content—programming that the entire family can enjoy without reservations. Our mission is to deliver premium content to all, regardless of affordability. The belief that paid channels or apps offer superior content is merely a myth, as our channel surpasses many paid options. We serve the largest TV-viewing audience, which is reflected in our ratings.”
Reflecting on the changes in content over the years, Nivedita remarked, “I don’t believe that super fictional films are the same as daily soaps, but when Kahi Kisi Roz was released, no one anticipated that a daily horror thriller would become a hit. Thankfully, well-crafted horror content resonates with audiences, and that’s where Dinesh Vijan excelled.”
Nivedita Basu has held prominent positions such as Vice President of Content and Business Alliances at Atrangii, Ullu, and Hari Om, showcasing a rich career in the entertainment sector. She previously worked as a creative director at Balaji Telefilms. Since 2015, Nivedita has transitioned into producing and owns the celebrity cricket team, Kolkata Baabu Moshayes, featured in the reality show Box Cricket League.
