Pallavi Joshi on Zeenat Aman's 50 years in Bollywood: 'We realised her incredible body of work'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actress Pallavi Joshi has fondly recalled celebrating veteran star Zeenat Aman's landmark 50 years in Bollywood, describing how an impromptu dance session on the sets of 'Margao Files' turned into one of her most cherished memories. The celebration took place in Chhota Udaipur, near Vadodara, where the cast and crew were shooting the series.
The Celebration on Set
According to Pallavi, it was director Kapil Kaustubh Sharma who organised the occasion. 'There's one thing I would like to share. When she completed 50 years in the industry, Kapil Kaustubh Sharma had organised a cake. This happened on the sets of 'Margao Files' in Baroda, at a place called Chhota Udaipur, where we were shooting,' she recalled.
What began as a cake-cutting soon evolved into something more spontaneous. 'So we had the celebration for her, and all the women were there. Somebody started playing old Zeenat Aman songs, and we all started grooving to those songs,' Pallavi said.
Rediscovering a Legend's Legacy
Pallavi noted that the impromptu musical tribute gave everyone on set a fresh appreciation of Zeenat Aman's extraordinary contribution to Hindi cinema. 'Of course, we know she's got some wonderful songs, but it was only when you start playing the songs that you realise, 'Oh my God, look at the number of songs, and what amazing, different characters she has done,'' she said.
The evening lingered long after the cameras stopped rolling. 'After the pack-up, we were all just dancing to her songs. I remember that evening very fondly,' Pallavi added.
Zeenat Aman's Path-Breaking Career
Zeenat Aman made her acting debut in the early 1970s and went on to fundamentally reshape the image of the Hindi film heroine. Her bold, unconventional performances in films such as 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna', 'Yaadon Ki Baaraat', 'Roti Kapada Aur Makaan', 'Don', 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram', 'Qurbani', 'Dostana', and 'Insaaf Ka Tarazu' broke prevailing stereotypes and cemented her status as one of Bollywood's most iconic figures. She was widely recognised for her glamour, confidence, and willingness to take on path-breaking roles at a time when few heroines did.
Margao Files Connection
Both Pallavi Joshi and Zeenat Aman share screen space in the recently released series 'Margao Files', directed by Kapil Kaustubh Sharma. The project marks a notable coming-together of two generations of Indian cinema, with Aman's milestone anniversary adding an emotional layer to the collaboration.
As Bollywood continues to celebrate its living legends, the moment in Chhota Udaipur stands as a reminder of how enduring great cinema truly is.
