Pallavi Joshi recalls being left speechless by Zeenat Aman on Don sets
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actress and producer Pallavi Joshi has shared a vivid childhood memory of meeting veteran star Zeenat Aman for the first time on the sets of the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer 'Don', recalling how the legendary actress's unconventional glamour left her completely tongue-tied. The encounter took place at Mehboob Studios, Mumbai, during the shooting of the 1978 cult classic.
A Child's First Glimpse of a Legend
Pallavi, who was just eight or nine years old at the time, had accompanied her elder brother Alankar Joshi, who was part of the 'Don' production. She recalled tagging along to film shoots as a child, a habit that would lead to one of her most unforgettable encounters.
'I used to tag along to film shoots as a child. I must have been eight or nine years old then. I remember 'Don' was being shot at Mehboob Studios and my brother Alankar was a part of the film, so I would often accompany him,' Pallavi said.
What Made Zeenat Aman Stand Apart
When Zeenat Aman walked onto the set, Pallavi was introduced to her by her father — and found herself speechless a second time. She described the experience as being overwhelmed by an aura unlike anything she had seen in Hindi cinema at the time.
'Her personality was so different from any other heroine of that time. She looked unconventional, chose unconventional roles, and everything about her, from her hairstyle and makeup to her costumes, was unlike the typical heroine. Yet she was so glamorous,' Pallavi recalled. 'So glamorous that words simply escaped me. I just kept looking at her.'
Gracious Off-Screen, Iconic On It
Despite her towering star status, Pallavi noted that Zeenat Aman was remarkably warm and approachable. 'She was absolutely gracious. If you went to her and asked for a picture, she would immediately say, 'Of course, please come.' She's been very, very nice, very gracious and a lovely person to work with,' Pallavi said.
This quality, she suggested, set Zeenat apart not just as a performer but as a person — a rare combination of screen magnetism and genuine warmth that left lasting impressions on those who met her.
Full-Circle Moment in 'The Margao Files'
Decades after that childhood encounter at Mehboob Studios, Pallavi Joshi recently shared screen space with Zeenat Aman in the series 'The Margao Files'. The collaboration marks a full-circle moment — from a starstruck child watching her idol on set, to a fellow actor working alongside her. As Pallavi's career continues to evolve, the reunion underscores how enduring Zeenat Aman's influence has been across generations of Indian cinema.
