Mumbai, May 28 (NationPress) Filmmaker Karan Johar recently took a nostalgic journey back to his childhood and shared a memorable experience involving his mother, Hiroo Johar, and his aunts, who organized a fashion exhibition in 1981 with renowned designer Abu Jani. He fondly recalled feeling starstruck by the legendary actress Zeenat Aman during this event.
On Instagram, Karan posted a striking monochrome photograph featuring his mother and Zeenat Aman. In the backdrop, a young Karan can be seen peering between the two, wide-eyed and curious.
He penned a heartfelt caption: “Memories can be therapeutic … I wanted to share this unforgettable memory … My mother and aunts had the ambition to host a fashion exhibition (despite lacking any background in fashion or business acumen) … They enlisted a young designer to help curate and design the collection.”
Karan revealed that the designer behind this initiative in 1981 was Abu Jani.
“(now a celebrated fashion icon) the collection was titled ALKAPRI (named after their children Alka, Karan, and Priyanka). I fondly remember the countless lunches, tea sessions, and laughter at our home … Abu entertained the ladies with his infectious humor while I sat quietly in a corner, soaking in the fashion and, of course, the gossip…”
He also shared that his mother invited the stunning Zeenat Aman to inaugurate the exhibition.
“This photo captures the exhibition day, where my mother requested @thezeenataman to open it, and she graciously accepted. If you look closely, you can see a starstruck fan (me!) photobombing the picture!”
“Reflecting on this, I realize that this was the moment that ignited my passion for fashion and the fashion industry… #thosewerethedays.
