Prajakta Koli on 7 years as Dimple Ahuja in Mismatched final season
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actress Prajakta Koli has opened up about her deeply personal seven-year journey portraying Dimple Ahuja in the hit Netflix series Mismatched, revealing that shooting the final season has been an emotional experience she was not prepared for. Speaking on Shekhar Suman's show, Koli described her bond with the character as something that transcends the boundaries of a typical on-screen role.
An Emotional Farewell in the Making
When asked whether she identifies more with Dimple Ahuja or her younger self, Koli did not hesitate. 'It would be Dimple Ahuja only. There are so many things she does that I have never agreed with, but I have always empathized with her because I think she is a beautiful person,' she said.
With the final season currently in production, Koli admitted the experience is bittersweet. 'We're shooting the final season now, and every day feels like one day closer to saying goodbye to her. It's breaking my heart. I know people might think it's just a character, but I don't think anything can prepare me for the day I have to say, I'm not going to be Dimple Ahuja anymore,' she added.
What Drew Her to Dimple Ahuja
Koli recalled that the character brief she received for Dimple stood out for what it did not say. 'When the brief came to me, it had nothing to do with the way Dimple looked, which was surprising. Apart from saying she wears glasses, there was nothing about whether she was fair, dark, short, or tall,' she explained.
Instead, the brief focused entirely on Dimple's personality — her ambition, her passion for gaming and coding, and her idol Nandini Nahata. 'She had never really thought about love until this perfect boy came into her life. I thought that was beautiful,' Koli said. The character's substance-over-appearance framing, she noted, was what made the role immediately compelling.
Upcoming Projects: Kargil War Series and More
Beyond Mismatched, Koli is set to appear in Operation Safed Sagar, a Netflix series based on the Indian Air Force's role during the Kargil War. She described it as a small but meaningful part. 'It's a small role, but it's a beautiful character. It's a huge show, and I'm very grateful that I get to be a part of it,' she said.
She also spoke about her cameo in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, crediting her admiration for director Shashank Khaitan as the deciding factor. 'I've loved Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. When Shashank Khaitan asked me if I'd do it, I immediately said yes,' she explained.
Seven Years, One Character
Koli's association with Mismatched — adapted from Sandhya Menon's novel — has spanned multiple seasons and marked a significant chapter in her transition from digital content creator to mainstream actress. The final season, now underway, is expected to bring Dimple Ahuja's arc to a close, and by Koli's own account, saying goodbye may prove harder than any scene she has filmed.
