Pratik Sehajpal, actor and Bigg Boss 15 runner-up, has spoken candidly about modern relationship trends, firmly distancing himself from the concept of situationships and arguing that such arrangements fall far short of what love truly means. The remarks came on 23 August in Mumbai, ahead of the launch of his new show.

What Pratik Said About Situationships

Sehajpal did not mince words when asked about the increasingly popular concept of situationships — loosely defined relationships with no formal commitment. “Honestly, when it comes to modern relationships, I can’t even say ‘situationships.’ I think these are very high-level things. There is no such love. This is not love. We can’t call them love. This is just a time pass,” he said.

He was careful, however, not to pass moral judgement on those who embrace such arrangements. “People are okay with being with someone today and doing something else tomorrow. I am not saying it is wrong. Look, it is today’s generation. People are evolving. Whatever it is, be happy with it,” he added. Drawing an unexpected historical parallel, Sehajpal noted that group marriage preceded the institution of marriage as we know it, suggesting that relationship norms have always been in flux. “I also don’t have a problem with it. But I am not like that. I don’t believe in all these things,” he said.

His New Show and the Character Shivaay

Sehajpal is currently gearing up for his new television project, Dil Se Deewangi Tak, in which he plays a character named Shivaay — described as emotionally conflicted yet deeply loving. He drew a contrast between the show’s portrayal of relationships and the situationship culture he had just critiqued.

“Shivaay is loving, so he is going through this. He is a little emotionally confused, but it is not like that here either. If he has love, then you will see whom he loves. Even if he is emotionally confused, you will see in his eyes whom he loves,” Sehajpal said. The show appears to position itself as a more emotionally grounded take on love at a time when the entertainment industry has leaned heavily into ambiguous relationship narratives.

Pratik’s Broader Definition of Love

Beyond romantic relationships, Sehajpal offered a more expansive view of what love means to him personally. He argued that love is not confined to romantic partnerships and can extend to objects, nature, and people in one’s immediate surroundings.

“Love is not necessarily about having a girl in front of you and, if I am a boy, saying that I will love the girl. I can love this plant too. I can love you too. I love this camera a lot,” he said. The perspective reflects a philosophical outlook on emotion that goes beyond conventional romantic framing.
