Mumbai, Aug 11 (NationPress) Renowned music composer Pritam, whose latest album ‘Metro... In Dino’ has just launched, expressed his astonishment upon discovering that Amitabh Bhattacharya penned the lyrics for ‘Dev.D’.
Amitabh, who served as Pritam's assistant for a significant period, had not revealed his lyric-writing prowess during their collaboration.
In a conversation with IANS after the success of ‘Metro... In Dino’, Pritam remarked, “Amitabh was one of my early assistants. When he approached me for work, I was still finding my footing in the industry. I thought he was a singer and didn’t realize he could write. I would often elevate everyone to lyricists.”
He recounted, “Amitabh Verma, who was my studio editor, I transformed into a lyricist. Mayur Puri, an assistant to Sanjay Gadhvi, also became a lyricist under my guidance. I wondered, ‘How did I miss Amitabh Bhattacharya’s talent?’ Ashish Pandit came in to sing, and I asked him to write a scratch for the presentation.”
“Since Hindi isn’t my first language, I don’t produce the scratches myself. I create anything, anticipating the director’s input. Upon learning that Amitabh wrote for ‘Dev.D’, I exclaimed, ‘This is our Pimpu, he penned this!’ I believe the first song he crafted for me was ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai’. Since then, we’ve developed a strong partnership, and I now have great confidence in him for lyrics,” he added.
Previously, Pritam expressed his excitement about a fresh concept shared by the director, stating that Anurag has proposed a new idea, and he feels as enthusiastic about this upcoming project as he did for ‘Life in a Metro’.
Pritam mentioned to IANS, “Anurag has two or three innovative ideas. There’s one concept I can’t elaborate on, but I feel the same thrill for it as I did during the ‘Life in a Metro’ project; it’s something entirely new.”
“I’m unsure when Anurag will proceed with it, but I’m exceptionally excited about this idea. A completely novel concept. I hope he moves quickly on it,” he concluded.
