Los Angeles, Dec 16 (NationPress) Hollywood director Ryan Coogler has shared insights about the challenging moments he faced while working on ‘Sinners’, featuring Michael B. Jordan as the Smokestack Twins.

Coogler revealed that he “almost lost (his) mind” while directing Jordan, according to reports from Female First UK.

The 39-year-old filmmaker reminisced about the obstacles encountered while filming Jordan, 38, and his stunt double Percy Bell as Smoke and Stack during a critical driving scene in his upcoming 2025 vampire thriller, which required extensive planning and precise timing.

In a recent episode of Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast, Coogler expressed, “Every day was different. Every scene was different. Watching the movie, there are certain scenes you wouldn’t think were difficult. You remember the day I almost lost my mind, when you guys had to drive the car and get into the bushes? Pulling off that shot was f** crazy, because Mike’s driving, and we needed to do repeated passes of the car while ensuring they exited the vehicle at the right moment, interacting with the bush correctly.”

According to Female First UK, the Black Panther director emphasized that Smoke and Stack have distinct movement styles that needed to be accurately replicated in each take.

He pointed out, “You can see the difference in performance, but also, due to timing, they have to enter the bushes in a specific manner.”

Jordan mentioned that to achieve the desired performance, he had to coordinate closely with his double, stating, “I had to work with my twin double, Percy Bell, and guide him on my actions, ensuring I had that performance to react to when portraying the first brother.”

The Creed star elaborated that whichever brother initiated the scene would establish “the rules of blocking and coverage” since “we couldn’t exist in the same space.”

He remarked, “That was the reality we discovered in real time.” Despite the difficulties of filming this sequence, Coogler affirmed that the final cut “looks good.”

In ‘Sinners’, twin gangster brothers Smoke and Stack (Jordan) return to their hometown in Mississippi in 1932 to launch a Black-owned juke joint, aiming to escape their criminal pasts. However, a charismatic vampire (played by Jack O’Connell) unleashes a supernatural terror on the town, forcing the twins, their musician cousin Sammie (played by Miles Caton), and their close-knit community to confront what they are willing to sacrifice for survival and freedom.

Sinners also features Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo, Jayme Lawson, and Omar Benson Miller. Jordan recently expressed his belief that his portrayal of Smoke is worthy of an Oscar nomination.
