New Delhi, Sep 13 (NationPress) Saba Azad, known for her role in “Bandar (Monkey in a Cage)”, explained that portraying Khushi plunged her into a morally intricate realm, yet she believes that the essence of an exceptional performance is rooted in empathy.
“Acting isn’t merely about having experienced the same situations as the characters we embody, but rather about the ability to empathize with them, regardless of the moral complexities they face. I focused on truly understanding Khushi,” Saba shared with IANS.
Featured in the Special Presentations section at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Saba noted that while audiences may have mixed feelings about “Bandar”, it is a film that demands attention.
“Anurag Kashyap’s films linger in your mind long after you’ve left the theater, and this one is no exception; it will undoubtedly spark discussions and evoke contrasting emotions among viewers. You may love it or hate it, but it’s impossible to overlook,” Saba remarked.
The film delves into themes of power, trauma, and memory, centering on a superstar facing allegations of rape, shedding light on the failings of the legal system.
When asked about her approach to storytelling that mirrors social and political realities, Saba responded: “Like any other aspect of a script, with curiosity and a commitment to portray it with honesty.”
Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi and directed by Anurag Kashyap, “Bandar” also stars Bobby Deol, Sanya Malhotra, and Sapna Pabbi in pivotal roles.
Discussing her on-screen chemistry with Bobby Deol, she noted how their relationship evolves throughout the narrative.
“Initially, their interaction is straightforward — a simple relationship. As the plot unfolds, the layers of their dynamic deepen, revealing a range of contradictory and confusing emotions, which arise,” she explained.
Furthermore, Saba praised Bobby, stating: “He is a generous co-actor; his vulnerability in the film is remarkable. It was a pleasure collaborating with him.”
