Mumbai, Sep 15 (NationPress) The talented actress-singer Saba Azad, who has gracefully transitioned from Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge to Songs of Paradise, Rocket Boys, and Bandar, expressed that her versatility in the entertainment industry has emerged as a natural evolution rather than a deliberate strategy.
From Rocket Boys to Bandar, she has embraced a variety of genres and time periods. When asked if her versatility is a deliberate decision or a natural process, Saba told IANS: “I’ve chosen projects that genuinely excite me, and I’m grateful that each is distinct from the others because it allows me to immerse myself and learn anew with every experience.”
Saba, currently in a relationship with Bollywood icon Hrithik Roshan, has donned multiple creative roles, including singer, indie artist, actor, and performer.
When questioned about which of these roles feels the most like home, or if they all complement one another, Saba quickly responded: “I feel completely at home in all of them. Indeed, all performing arts beautifully complement each other.”
On how she maintains her unique identity in an industry that frequently attempts to categorize individuals, Saba remarked: “I strive to avoid following trends. My motivation is the joy of creation above all else.”
The actress's film Bandar (Monkey in a Cage) was featured in the Special Presentations section at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Bandar delves into themes of power, trauma, and memory, centered around the narrative of a superstar accused of rape, shedding light on the systemic injustices within the legal framework. The film is produced by Nikhil Dwivedi and directed by Anurag Kashyap, featuring prominent actors like Bobby Deol, Sanya Malhotra, and Sapna Pabbi.
Reflecting on her journey, Saba made her Bollywood debut in 2008 with Anil Senior's Dil Kabaddi alongside Rahul Bose. She gained recognition in a leading role as Preity Sen in Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge opposite newcomers Nishant Dahiya and Saqib Saleem.
Additionally, Saba is a renowned musician in the Indian indie music scene and co-founded the electronic band Madboy/Mink with actor and musician Imaad Shah in 2012.
She also established her own theatre company, The Skins, in 2010 and directed her inaugural play, Lovepuke, which premiered at NCPA's experimental theatre in September 2010.
