Mumbai, Aug 30 (NationPress) Actress Soni Razdan, who portrays the iconic Kashmiri singer Raj Begum in the newly released streaming film ‘Songs of Paradise’, has expressed her tendency to concentrate on her character in the script, making her somewhat “myopic” regarding the overall film.
During a recent promotional interview with IANS, Soni discussed her dual portrayal of Raj Begum alongside actress Saba Azad, who plays her younger self.
When questioned about her approach to the character in contrast to Saba Azad’s interpretation, she replied, “I wasn’t aware of what Saba was doing. As an actor, I tend to become myopic when I receive a script. I focus on my role. I read Saba’s part, but then I set it aside. My attention was on my own performance.”
‘Songs of Paradise’ draws inspiration from the life of Padma Shri awardee Raj Begum, featuring Saba Azad and Soni Razdan across two distinct timelines.
She elaborated, “I concentrated solely on my scenes and the emotional trajectory of my character. This focus was my main driving force. Fortunately, Saba filmed her scenes before me, allowing us to work across different time periods. I didn’t have to share the screen with her. When I began, Danish (the director) provided insights, letting me know what Saba had done, which was beneficial.”
“Most of the time, my characterization stemmed from the scene itself and the emotional dynamics with other characters. That was what truly motivated me,” she added.
Presented by Excel Entertainment and produced by Apple Tree Pictures Production and Renzu Films Production, ‘Songs of Paradise’ is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
