Actress Saiee M Manjrekar, set to star in India House — a pre-independence period drama produced by superstar Ram Charan in his debut production venture — has described working across historical timelines as a transformative craft exercise that demands heightened attention to behavioural and emotional authenticity.

The texture of a different era

Speaking about the film's period setting, Manjrekar underscored how the visual and linguistic specificity of a historical narrative reshapes an actor's approach. "Working on a film based in a different era, the time period is very interesting," she said. "There's a different texture, language, art, fashion that is truly exciting to be on sets for. It makes you slow down and observe things differently as an actor, because everything from the way people spoke to how they expressed emotions was so different."

Costume and environment as character tools

The actress, daughter of filmmaker-actor Mahesh Manjrekar, emphasised how production design elements reinforce immersion. "Even the costumes and the overall environment help you stay in that world, and that really adds to the performance," she noted. This layered approach — where wardrobe, dialogue cadence, and spatial design converge — shapes the emotional truth of a character rooted in a bygone epoch.

A learning curve in historical storytelling

Manjrekar framed the experience as formative. "For me, it has been a learning experience to understand that mindset and bring that honesty into the character." The remark suggests that period work demands not just surface mimicry but an internalized grasp of the social and psychological contours of the era.

India House: Scale and dual-language production

Mounted on a big canvas, India House is being shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, expanding its reach across regional audiences. The narrative, anchored in the pre-independence period, explores a significant historical moment through a distinct visual and emotional landscape. Ram Charan's involvement as producer marks his entry into film production, signalling a broader creative ambition beyond acting.

Saiee's trajectory and recent work

Manjrekar made her film debut with a brief appearance as Kushi Damle in the Marathi film Kaksparsh in 2012. Most recently, she appeared in the Telugu action drama Arjun Son Of Vyjayanthi, directed by Pradeep Chilukuri, which also starred Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, Vijayashanti, Sohail Khan, Babloo Prithiveeraj, Srikanth, and R. Sarathkumar. That film served as a spiritual sequel to the 1990 film Karthavyam, with Vijayashanti reprising her original role as Kalyan Ram's mother.
