Sangram Singh picks Ranbir, Ranveer, Vicky or Kartik for his biopic role
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Wrestler and actor Sangram Singh has named Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, and Kartik Aaryan as the Bollywood performers he believes could convincingly portray him if a biopic on his life is ever made. The revelation came during a candid conversation in Mumbai.
Still Too Young for a Biopic, Says Sangram
Sangram was quick to add a caveat — he does not consider himself ready for a biopic just yet. 'There is still a lot left for me to achieve in life,' he said, suggesting the chapter is far from closed. Only then did he entertain the hypothetical, naming four of Hindi cinema's most versatile leading men as worthy candidates.
'But if it ever happens, actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal or Kartik Aaryan could do justice to it. They are all excellent performers,' he said.
Sangram's Role in the KD Jadhav Biopic
On the professional front, Sangram has been cast in a crucial role in an upcoming biopic on the life of Olympic gold medalist wrestler KD Jadhav, directed by Nagraj Manjule. The project holds deep personal significance for him.
Sangram revealed that his connection to Jadhav's story goes back years. 'When I became the first brand ambassador of the Wrestling Federation of India and started motivational speaking, I began reading extensively about him. I met his son Ranjit ji and many people connected to his life,' he said.
A Project Three Years in the Making
Sangram disclosed that his involvement with a film on KD Jadhav predates the current project. 'Earlier, Shyam Babu was also trying to make a film on Jadhav sir, and I was associated with that process for almost three years. Unfortunately, that project stopped midway. Then director Nagraj Manjule sir came forward with this film, and I got an opportunity to be part of it,' he explained.
He described Jadhav's post-Olympic life as one marked by struggle and hardship that received far less attention than his historic achievement. 'As I learned more about the Olympic medalist, I realised how difficult his life was after that success. He struggled a lot and endured many hardships,' Sangram said.
Honouring a Forgotten Champion
KD Jadhav brought India its first individual Olympic medal, yet Sangram argues the wrestler never received the recognition he deserved during his lifetime. 'Even today, many feel he deserves much more honour. I feel grateful that I could contribute, even in a small way, to telling his story,' he concluded.
With Nagraj Manjule — known for critically acclaimed work in Indian cinema — at the helm, the biopic is expected to bring renewed national attention to Jadhav's legacy.
