Kolkata, April 6 (NationPress) Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh, known for his remarkable power-hitting abilities in the Indian Premier League (IPL), reflected on his cricketing journey while aiding in the preparation of authentic Kolkata-style biryani during an episode of Knight Bite.
While he helped craft the fragrant biryani, complete with its quintessential potato - an essential ingredient, as emphasized by host and chef Kunal Kapur - Rinku reminisced about his cricketing beginnings.
"I was a student at Modern School, and during an inter-school tournament, some spectators noticed my talent and invited me to play, recognizing my skills with the tennis ball," Singh recounted regarding his inaugural cricket match.
The gifted left-hander shared his promising start in the sport: "When I came in to bat, the match concluded with me scoring 54 runs off 32 balls. That’s where my cricket journey commenced."
Reflecting on his debut international appearance for India, Rinku confessed he felt nervous: "Playing for India, achieving what I have dreamt of, does make you anxious. In my first match, I didn’t get to bat; I only fielded, and it was raining, which added to my worries. But after a while, everything felt normal again."
A particularly moving moment arose when Rinku discussed his tattoo that reads "God's Plan, Beautifully Done" alongside the time "2:20" - the precise moment that altered his life forever. "When KKR selected me in 2018 for Rs 80 lakh, it was a life-changing amount for my family. Before that, we had limited resources. My family's life transformed entirely; my siblings' weddings became simpler, and we even purchased a house with that money," he disclosed emotionally.
"That’s the reason I got this tattoo, with my family’s name inscribed. It was around 2:21 or 2:20 when I was chosen, and everything shifted from that moment," he added, pointing to the tattoo that signifies his profound bond with the Kolkata franchise.
As the delightful biryani simmered with its aromatic spices, Rinku engaged in a playful game where he accurately identified renowned Bengali sweets, including rasgulla, jalebi, and gulab jamun, showcasing his connection with Kolkata culture.
He was later joined by teammates Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Moeen Ali, who admired his culinary skills as the trio enjoyed the meal together.
