Mumbai, Sep 6 (NationPress) Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has expressed his thoughts on the Hollywood film 'The Conjuring Last Rites' surpassing Tiger Shroff's Bollywood movie 'Baaghi 4' at the Indian box office.
The creator of 'Kaante' took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share, “In my 20s and 30s, I could never have envisioned an English film outpacing a Hindi film. Today’s scenario is striking - An English horror flick is earning double that of a mainstream Hindi action movie. What’s changed???”
In response to his remarks, numerous users on social media highlighted that the disparity arises from the excellence of Hollywood narratives and execution.
One user commented, “The quality of Hindi films has significantly declined. Producers are overspending on actor salaries, VFX, and foreign shoots, while not allocating enough budget to scriptwriters for compelling stories. Hindi cinema has lost its emotional depth and essence.”
Another user remarked, “Create superior films and realistic action narratives akin to Hollywood, rather than blaming the audience for not engaging with the film… Understand the cause. I’m puzzled as to how the Baaghi series has continued this long.”
A third individual noted, “A mainstream Hindi action film simply isn’t appealing enough. If audiences had responded positively to the promotional content of Baaghi 4, it would have launched with greater success. Meanwhile, the English horror film is the fourth chapter of a well-established franchise that’s marketed as the final installment, making its strong opening predictable.”
Previously, Sanjay shared on the micro-blogging platform, “There’s a constant stream of action films from the West. It almost feels orchestrated. Meanwhile, many of our top action stars remain at home, grappling with unrealistic expectations. In this situation, all parties - the audience, producers, and stars - face losses.”
While 'Baaghi 4', featuring Tiger Shroff, earned ₹ 12 crore on its opening day, 'The Conjuring Last Rites' raked in ₹ 17.5 crore on its debut day in India.
