Shekhar Kapur Reflects on Leaving Home at 17

Mumbai, Dec 1 (NationPress) Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, celebrated for his exceptional cinematic works, recently took to social media to share a nostalgic photograph of his parents.

The photo, discovered by his sister, triggered a wave of emotions for the filmmaker, who wrote a touching note about the deep significance of family, memories, and home. On Sunday, Shekhar shared a rare black-and-white image of his parents together.

In the caption accompanying the monochrome photo, Kapur expressed, “Parents. It’s sometimes difficult to envision them as young individuals, almost like ourselves, for that’s precisely what they have always represented to us .. parents .. I was taken aback when my sister sent me these images that had been tucked away in some cupboard for ages .. That’s the essence of home, isn’t it? It’s a treasure trove filled with memories .. of emotions .. wherever your gaze falls .. regardless of which corner .. a hidden treasure awaits.”

He elaborated, “We find it so simple to transform a home into a ‘house’, a house into ‘property’ .. a property into ‘real estate’ .. after a decade of searching .. of delving deep into my heart .. a decade spent seeking Home .. for I departed at the age of 17 .. those ten years have ultimately morphed into a script .. Masoom - The Next Generation .. Who am I? What does home signify? Where are my memories concealed? Where do your emotions reside .. #home #property #house #memory #parents #film #masoom #masoom-thenextgeneration #heart @kaverikapur..”

In response to his post, actress Manisha Koirala remarked, “I searched for home for many years… eventually, I concluded that my parents are my home!!! That love and care is unparalleled.. as we progress in our journeys, we are continually in pursuit of home (the same unconditional love, safety, security, knowing someone is there when everything else seems lost…).”

Meanwhile, Shekhar is highly regarded for his films such as “Bandit Queen,” “Elizabeth,” and “Masoom.” He gained prominence with a recurring role in the television series “Khandaan.”

He made his directorial debut with the 1983 film “Masoom.” His career reached new heights in 1987 with the release of “Mr. India,” which received immense acclaim and solidified his status as a visionary filmmaker in Indian cinema.
