Shia LaBeouf Faces New Charges After Mardi Gras Incident in New Orleans
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 1 (NationPress) Hollywood star Shia LaBeouf has found himself in trouble once again, this time in New Orleans. He now faces an additional misdemeanor charge of simple battery.
This new charge is connected to his earlier arrest on February 17 during the festive Mardi Gras celebrations, as reported by People magazine.
LaBeouf voluntarily presented himself to law enforcement on Saturday just before his bail hearing. He managed to secure his release after posting a bond of $5,000, according to The Guardian.
Neither LaBeouf’s legal representation nor the New Orleans Police Department responded promptly to requests for comments. During his initial arrest on February 17, he faced two counts of misdemeanor battery after an alleged confrontation at the Royal Street Inn & R Bar amidst Mardi Gras festivities.
According to an initial police report cited by People, one victim claimed to have been struck “in the face with a closed fist that possibly dislocated his nose” and mentioned that he “realigned his nose himself.” The report also alleged that LaBeouf repeatedly used the derogatory term “f----t.”
As part of the conditions for his release, the actor was mandated to enter a substance abuse treatment program, undergo drug testing, and post a $100,000 bond. In a recent interview with Channel 5's Andrew Callaghan, uploaded on YouTube just before his latest arrest, LaBeouf expressed his views on his behavior surrounding the February 17 incident but conveyed skepticism about rehabilitation being the right solution for him.
“My behavior was bulls***. I have to confront that. Does that mean I need to go to rehab again? I’m just not interested in it. I don’t believe my answers lie there. If I truly thought that, I would go,” he stated.
