Sigma director Jason Sanjay shunned privileges, worked hardest on set: Sundeep Kishan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actor Sundeep Kishan, the lead of Tamil-Telugu action film 'Sigma', has revealed that first-time director Jason Sanjay — son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay — never sought special treatment during the film's production and, in fact, outworked every member of the crew. The film, which also stars Faria Abdullah, released worldwide on 2 October 2026.
What Sundeep Kishan Said
Speaking to reporters, Kishan described the mindset that drove the production. 'Beyond challenges, we see it as our responsibility. We want everyone who comes for this film to say that it was a good thing that they came for this film. Anything more than that is a bonus. It is towards this goal that we have put in a lot of effort. The director has put in a lot of effort,' he said.
Kishan went further, placing Jason Sanjay alongside the most dedicated filmmakers he has collaborated with. 'I am telling you very honestly. I have worked with a lot of first-time directors, I have also worked with very big directors. He has worked harder than, or just as hard as any other person,' he added.
No Special Privileges, Says the Lead Actor
When asked directly whether the young director received any advantages owing to his father's political stature, Kishan was unequivocal. 'He has made a film on a budget meant for Sundeep Kishan. He was given 70 days time to make the film and he completed it in 63 days. If he had gone and asked for an increase in budget by about 10 more crores, they would have given it. If he had asked for an additional 20 days, the production house would have supported it. Lyca would do it for any director. But Jason Sanjay never took advantage at any point,' Kishan stated.
About Sigma and Its Significance
Produced by Lyca Productions, 'Sigma' marks Jason Sanjay's directorial debut and is among the more closely watched releases of the season, given the scrutiny that comes with the director's lineage. The film was completed seven days ahead of its allotted schedule — a detail Kishan cited as evidence of the director's discipline and commitment. The cast includes Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah in the lead roles.
The Spotlight on Jason Sanjay
Jason Sanjay's entry into filmmaking has drawn considerable attention, not merely for his craft but for his parentage. Being the son of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay — himself a former superstar of Tamil cinema — places the debut under a magnifying glass. Notably, the production reportedly proceeded without any budget inflation or timeline extensions that the director could have easily leveraged. Industry observers point out that completing a film under budget and ahead of schedule is an achievement regardless of who is behind the camera.
