Los Angeles, Nov 23 (NationPress) Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney is candidly discussing her struggles, a challenge that many women face.
The actress revealed that many women, herself included, struggle to seek assistance, fearing it might make them seem “weak,” according to a report from ‘Female First UK’.
At 28, she embodies the role of former boxer Christy Martin in David Michod's biographical film and resonates with Christy's reluctance to display vulnerability and the need to appear as if you “have it all together.”
In her conversation with Sky News, Sweeney expressed, “I have a really hard time with asking for help and my friends recently have really pointed that out to me, and they're like, 'Sydney, it's okay to ask. Like, you can.' There's nothing wrong with it, but I have a really hard time with it.”
She elaborated, “I think it’s hard, especially as a woman, there are so many expectations on us to have it all together. If we do ask for help, it’s viewed as a sign of weakness. Yet, when a man seeks help, no one thinks, ‘oh, he’s weak.’ But if a woman director seeks assistance, it’s like, ‘oh, she’s not prepared for this role.’”
As reported by ‘Female First UK’, the 57-year-old former boxer and survivor of domestic abuse commended Sydney’s performance in ‘Christy’, recognizing her “competitive spirit” essential for authentically depicting her life story on screen.
Christy shared with Flickering Myth, “She did a great job. What’s interesting that many might not know is that she actually has an MMA background from her teenage years. So she already possesses that competitive spirit. The boxing aspect was enjoyable for her, and I believe she relished this role because it was so different from her usual characters, making it both challenging and fun.”
She is not only a pioneer in the boxing realm but also a survivor of an attempted murder by her abusive spouse, Jim Martin, and she aimed for the biopic to encompass all facets of her narrative.
