Los Angeles, Sep 10 (NationPress) Hollywood actor Channing Tatum disclosed that he was presented with the opportunity to portray the Beast in Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of “Beauty and the Beast” and described turning it down as “one of the greatest blunders” of his “career.”
In a recent discussion with Vanity Fair, Tatum explained that at the time, he had “just welcomed a baby” and felt the film’s script wasn’t “completely developed,” which led him to decline the role.
“One of the greatest blunders of my career: Guillermo del Toro wanted to create his interpretation of ‘Beauty and the Beast,’” Tatum reminisced.
“I had just become a father, was working on a project that was overwhelming me, and the script wasn’t fully ready. I was in a mindset where I thought, ‘I can’t take this on right now.’ It was the greatest misstep, as I am a huge admirer of Guillermo. His version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ could have been an incredible film.”
Ultimately, Tatum didn’t miss out on anything tangible since the movie was never produced. He expressed a desire to rectify his decision and collaborate with the three-time Oscar winner in the future, according to reports from variety.com.
“He has countless other projects he wants to tackle,” Tatum remarked.
“He’s such a visionary. I might never forgive myself for that, but I hope we can join forces one day.”
Del Toro is currently promoting his latest fantasy venture “Frankenstein,” which received a rousing 13-minute standing ovation at its debut during the Venice Film Festival.
The film, inspired by Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, features stars like Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Lauren Collins, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.
