Terence Lewis on Red Fort Ramlila performance: 'Went beyond a performance'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actor and choreographer Terence Lewis has called his performance at the 103-year-old Shri Dharmic Leela Committee's Ramlila celebrations at Delhi's Red Fort a 'truly special experience', saying the devotional song 'Jagdambe Rani' created a profound connection with the audience during the Navratri season. The event, held on 18 October 2026, also saw Lewis share the stage with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, adding a memorable dimension to the evening.
A Moment Beyond the Stage
'Performing at the 103-year-old Shri Dharmic Leela Committee's Ramlila celebrations at the Red Fort was a truly special experience for me. There are some moments when you feel that what you are doing goes beyond a performance, and this was one of them,' Lewis said in a statement.
He described standing before thousands of attendees and witnessing their emotional response as 'incredibly moving'. 'As a performer, these are the moments you carry with you long after you leave the stage,' he added.
Delhi Follows Gujarat's Navratri Warmth
The Red Fort performance came on the heels of two Navratri events in Gujarat, where 'Jagdambe Rani' — composed by singer-composer duo Amol–Abhishek — had already received an enthusiastic reception. Lewis noted that the Delhi audience's 'love and enthusiasm' matched the warmth seen in Gujarat.
'There is something very powerful about music during Navratri. It brings people together, fills the atmosphere with devotion and reminds us of the faith, strength and positivity that Maa Durga represents,' he said. Lewis and the Amol–Abhishek duo had attended the event together as part of a larger cultural promotional tour.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's Presence and Blessings
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta shared the stage with the team and extended her best wishes for the film 'Aaj Ka Mahishasur', making the occasion particularly meaningful for the cast and crew. 'Her presence, blessings and good wishes for 'Aaj Ka Mahishasur' were very encouraging for all of us,' Lewis said, adding that the Chief Minister's appreciation gave the entire team 'a sense of motivation and confidence.'
About 'Aaj Ka Mahishasur' and 'Jagdambe Rani'
Produced by Gaurang Bhaskar and directed by Dhiraj Kumarr, 'Aaj Ka Mahishasur' features an ensemble cast including Terence Lewis, veteran actress Padmini Kolhapure, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Abhimanyu Singh, Neeraj Sood, Khushali Kumar, Himani Shivpuri, and Chandan Roy.
The devotional track 'Jagdambe Rani' is composed by Amol–Abhishek, with lyrics by Abhishek Talented and vocals by Dev Negi, Divya Kumar, Amol Shrivastava, and Abhishek Talented. Lewis said he hopes the song 'continues to touch hearts' as the film travels to wider audiences.
With Navratri celebrations providing a natural platform to reach devotional audiences, the team's cultural tour strategy appears to be building grassroots momentum ahead of the film's release.
