Tiger Shroff shooting: Eknath Shinde visits injured actor in Juhu attack
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited actor Tiger Shroff on Monday following a firing incident in Mumbai's Juhu area on Sunday evening, with visuals showing the actor seated beside Shinde, bandages visible on his chest and left arm. Shroff is reported to be safe, while his driver sustained injuries in the attack.
What Happened in Juhu
Three motorcycle-borne men allegedly opened fire at Tiger Shroff's car in the Juhu neighbourhood on Sunday evening, according to reports. The actor was inside the vehicle at the time. His driver was injured in the incident, while Shroff himself escaped with what appeared to be non-critical wounds, based on visuals from the hospital visit.
What the Government Said
Strongly condemning the attack, Eknath Shinde described it as 'deeply concerning' and assured swift action against those responsible. He confirmed he had spoken directly with the Mumbai Police Commissioner, who has since formed multiple special teams to track down and apprehend the accused.
'Our current priority is to keep Mumbai and its citizens safe. Whether it is a celebrity or an ordinary citizen, ensuring their safety is the responsibility of both the police and the government. There will be no laxity in this regard, and no gang, whoever they may be, will be spared,' Shinde told reporters.
The Deputy Chief Minister also invoked Mumbai Police's sweeping crackdown on organised crime in the 1990s, signalling the government's intent to act with similar firmness against those attempting to disrupt law and order.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis separately directed the Police Commissioner to investigate the matter immediately and take strict action against those found responsible.
Film Industry Reacts
The All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) expressed deep anguish over the attack, calling it part of a broader pattern rather than an isolated incident. In a social media post, the association questioned the safety of Mumbai's residents: 'Today it is Tiger Shroff. Who is next? When a celebrity is not safe in the heart of Mumbai, how can an ordinary Mumbaikar feel safe?'
Broader Concern for Mumbai's Safety
This comes amid growing scrutiny of law enforcement in Maharashtra's capital, with the attack on a prominent public figure raising fresh questions about organised crime and public safety. Notably, Juhu — an upscale coastal suburb home to several Bollywood personalities — has historically been considered a low-crime zone. The brazenness of the daylight attack on a recognisable public figure has amplified concern beyond the film fraternity. The investigation is ongoing, and arrests are expected as multiple police teams remain in the field.
