Triptii Dimri: 'Maa Behen' echoes two women society unfairly judged
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bollywood actress Triptii Dimri has revealed the deeply personal inspiration behind her role in the upcoming crime-comedy 'Maa Behen', saying two women from her childhood neighbourhood — judged harshly for being single and independent — stayed with her for years and ultimately drew her to the film. The actress made the disclosure at the trailer launch of 'Maa Behen', set to premiere on Netflix on 4 June.
The Childhood Memory That Stayed
Speaking at the trailer launch, Dimri recalled how the two women were ostracised by the community she grew up in. Triptii Dimri said: 'When sir narrated the story to me, I told him that there were two women in my society who were single, didn't have parents, and were considered a little fashionable for those times. People would call them names.'
She added that children in her neighbourhood were actively warned away from the two women. 'As kids, we were told, "You can't go to them, don't be friends with them, don't go near their house, it's dangerous." That stayed with me somewhere. When "Maa Behen" came along, it was the image of those two girls that I had in my mind,' she said.
Why She Felt Compelled to Say Yes
Dimri described signing on to the film as an act of belated solidarity. 'I was like, "I have to be a part of this film," because society judged them for no reason. If I could get a chance to apologise to them, I think this is my chance,' she said. The candid admission adds an emotional layer to what is otherwise being marketed as a chaotic, laugh-out-loud crime-comedy.
About the Film
'Maa Behen' also stars Madhuri Dixit Nene, Ravi Kishan, Dharna Durgaa, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Arunoday Singh, and Shardul Bhardwaj in pivotal roles. At the centre of the story is Rekha, a mother already stretched thin, whose life unravels further when a dead body turns up in her kitchen. Her two daughters — Jaya, the responsible one, and Sushma, the wild card — must help her think fast, lie faster, and keep prying neighbours from uncovering the truth.
Trailer Launch Buzz
On Saturday, 24 May, Dimri shared a series of images from the trailer launch on Instagram, captioning them: 'It was all smiles, fun and a whole lot of Maa Behen drama #MaaBehen trailer out now.' The post underscored the film's playful energy while her earlier comments at the event gave it unexpected emotional weight. 'Maa Behen' premieres exclusively on Netflix on 4 June.
