Mumbai, Oct 4 (NationPress) – In a delightful conversation on her chat show, “Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle,” co-hosted by Kajol, Twinkle Khanna, the Bollywood actress turned author, disclosed an intriguing fact about her role in the 2000 film “Mela.”
She revealed that the voice of her character Roopa was not hers, but instead was dropped by another individual. During the chat, Varun Dhawan expressed his affection for the film, dubbing it a guilty pleasure.
He remarked, “I love Roopa.” In reply, Twinkle humorously stated, “It’s not my voice! Oh my god, yes, of course, it’s not my voice, because the makers thought I was not being dramatic enough, so they had it dubbed by someone with asthma, and that was it,” she joked.
Her witty comment about the dubbed voice being excessively dramatic elicited laughter from the panel.
Varun Dhawan furthered the playful exchange, saying, “But it’s definitely a performance because you are nothing like Roopa. Then you had to become Roopa, and that was pretty challenging.”
In response, Twinkle playfully critiqued herself, saying, “I did not become anything at all. I quit the business because I had to become Roopa,” which sent Kajol, Alia Bhatt, and Varun Dhawan into fits of laughter.
For those unfamiliar, “Mela,” directed by Dharmesh Darshan, featured Aamir Khan, Faizal Khan, and Twinkle Khanna in leading roles. Despite high hopes, the film was critically and commercially unsuccessful, failing to perform well at the box office.
Interestingly, Twinkle’s career trajectory around “Mela” also intertwines with her personal life.
She tied the knot with actor Akshay Kumar in January 2001, shortly after the film's release. In previous interviews, Akshay humorously disclosed that one of Twinkle’s stipulations for their marriage was that she would only marry him if the movie flopped at the box office. Twinkle was quite confident that “Mela” would be a hit.
However, the film's failure coincided with her decision to leave the film industry and focus on other ventures while marrying Akshay Kumar.
