Mumbai, Dec 24 (NationPress) Actor Varun Sharma has shared his thoughts on the initial years of the 21st century, reflecting on his personal journey and the remarkable transformation of Indian cinema over the last 25 years.
This era has been both a humbling and inspiring experience for him, as he has been celebrated for his diverse roles, enabling his growth without being pigeonholed.
Varun believes that the past 25 years in Indian cinema have marked an extraordinary evolution.
“The rules of storytelling have been reshaped in Hindi cinema while preserving its fundamental essence. Filmmakers have redefined existing genres, adding their unique flair. Technically, every department has witnessed significant advancements,” Varun expressed in an exclusive chat with IANS.
The actor, who first garnered attention for his role as Choocha in “Fukrey,” emphasized the progress across all sectors, noting the rise of the Rs. 100-crore milestone that has redefined box office success.
“The Rs. 100 crore film has become the standard for evaluating box office success and has introduced a new language. Nowadays, even those outside the industry are engaged in the cinema business, which is a significant transformation,” he stated.
He firmly believes that Indian cinema has successfully connected with a global audience while maintaining its local roots, another notable feat.
Reflecting on his own career, Varun noted that he began his journey 13 years into the century and has been deeply moved by the audience's acceptance of his films and performances.
“I embarked on my career 13 years into the 21st century, and the warmth with which the audience has welcomed my films and performances is incredibly humbling. Today, individuals are no longer confined to the stereotypes associated with their roles,” said Varun, who made his Hindi cinema debut in 2013.
He added, “A good actor is simply a good actor, and filmmakers cast you based on talent rather than the genres you have succeeded in. I feel that I am just beginning and have a long way to go.”
Looking ahead, he envisions that the next 25 years will be significantly influenced by technology in filmmaking.
“With advancements in AI, VFX, and other technologies, the way we produce films will be transformed. We are in the digital era, which means that not only film production but also content distribution will be revolutionary,” he concluded, as he prepares for his upcoming film “Rahu Ketu.”
