Vidhatri Bandi on filming Max Min and Meowzaki days after losing her father
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actress Vidhatri Bandi has revealed that she began shooting for her upcoming film 'Max, Min and Meowzaki' barely two weeks after losing her father, describing herself as 'devastatingly numb' when the cameras first rolled. The candid disclosure, made in a recent interview, offers a rare glimpse into the personal anguish behind one of the year's more anticipated relationship dramas, set for theatrical release on 24 July.
The Loss That Preceded the Shoot
Bandi recounted that her father passed away just before the film went on floors, leaving her little time to grieve before stepping onto set. 'I lost my dad at that point. He had passed away and I think a week and a half later, maybe two weeks after that, we got into prep. So when I started shooting for this film, I was very numb, like I was devastatingly numb,' she said.
The timing made the early days of production especially gruelling. Rather than easing into her role, Bandi found herself navigating the first stages of grief while simultaneously trying to inhabit a character she had not yet fully understood.
Connecting With Karel — A Character She Struggled to Reach
Bandi plays Karel in the film, a role she describes as 'beautifully written.' Yet the emotional fog of bereavement made it difficult to access the character in the initial weeks. 'Karel is just such a beautifully written character. It just took me some time to understand her life, understand her as a person. And that is where I struggled initially,' she explained.
The challenge was not technical but deeply personal — grief, she suggested, had temporarily dulled the empathetic instincts that acting demands. This kind of emotional interference is rarely discussed openly in the industry, making her account all the more striking.
How the Director and Co-Star Helped Her Through
Bandi credited director Padmakumar Narasimhamurthy (known professionally as Paddy) and co-star Siddharth Menon for helping her find her footing. 'I found the rhythm soon, thanks to our director, and also Sid for just being such a giver as an actor, everything happened effortlessly after that. So, it was a struggle initially, but yeah, I somehow managed, thanks to these guys,' she said.
Menon's generosity on set, she indicated, created the kind of collaborative safety net that allowed her to gradually reconnect with the character and the story.
