Mumbai, June 18 (NationPress) Bollywood action star and martial artist Vidyut Jammwal was met with a thunderous standing ovation after delivering a speech in Sanskrit at the opening ceremony of the International Yoga Day 2025, organized by the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana in Bengaluru.

During his address, the actor emphasized the importance of steering clear from drugs and narcotics.

“Yoga is a vital part of India’s heritage. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali have greatly influenced my journey. Speaking this message in Sanskrit, the foundational language of all yogic scriptures, felt like a disciple's offering to my tradition that has molded my discipline and objectives,” stated Vidyut, who actively practices Kalaripayattu.

The event was presided over by H.R. Nagendra, yoga guru to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chancellor of the university, along with the Governor of Karnataka, Thawar Chand Gehlot. In his keynote address, Nagendra highlighted yoga’s significance in achieving holistic health.

This inaugural ceremony marked the commencement of a week-long series of sessions, workshops, and international collaborations, uniting practitioners, researchers, and leaders who are dedicated to the ancient science of yoga.

The International Day of Yoga is celebrated globally every year on June 21, following its adoption by the United Nations in 2014.

The initiative for Yoga Day was proposed by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his 2014 address at the U.N., and the resolution received widespread international support, with 177 nations co-sponsoring it and its unanimous approval in the United Nations General Assembly.

Vidyut made his acting debut in the Telugu film Sakthi in 2011, followed by his first Bollywood film appearance in Force the same year.

Initially taking on negative roles, his breakthrough lead role came in the martial arts film Commando in 2013. He has also starred in films such as Billa II, Thuppakki, and Anjaan, along with Baadshaho, Commando 2, Yaara, Commando 3, and Sanak.

The actor was recently featured in the sports action film “Crakk - Jeetegaa Toh Jiyegaa!”, directed by Aditya Datt. The film also includes stars like Arjun Rampal, Nora Fatehi, and Amy Jackson, and is touted as India’s first extreme sports action film.

In his upcoming project, Madharasi, a Tamil-language action thriller, he will be collaborating with AR Murugadoss as the writer and director.

This film features a stellar cast including Sivakarthikeyan, Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, and Biju Menon, alongside Shabeer Kallarakkal, Vikranth, Prem Kumar, Sanjay, and Sachana Namidass.
