New Delhi, June 18 (NationPress) The Ministry of Panchayati Raj announced on Wednesday its intention to partner with Bhashini, the National Language Translation Mission overseen by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This collaboration aims to leverage advanced AI-driven language technologies to enhance inclusivity and accessibility within Panchayati Raj governance.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is set to be signed on Thursday in the capital, attended by Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Professor SP Singh Baghel.

This initiative represents a strategic partnership designed to broaden multilingual access across the ministry's digital platforms and outreach efforts, facilitating increased public involvement in various Panchayati Raj initiatives, programs, discussions, and live events through innovative translation technologies.

This step is vital for transforming the ministry's platforms into seamlessly multilingual resources, enabling stakeholders, particularly elected representatives, officials, and citizens in rural areas, to engage with planning and governance systems in their native languages.

“The signing of this MoU will significantly improve language accessibility across key portals and platforms of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, while also fostering the use of AI-enabled public digital infrastructure to empower Panchayati Raj Institutions and strengthen participatory democracy at the grassroots level,” stated the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

During the event, a specially curated digital launch video showcasing the integration of Bhashini with eGramSwaraj will also be presented.

This month, the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) collaborated with the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) to develop and implement multilingual AI solutions across significant public-facing railway platforms.

This partnership aims to incorporate Bhashini’s cutting-edge language technology stack, which includes Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Text-to-Text Translation, Text-to-Speech (TTS), and Optical Character Recognition (OCR), into CRIS-managed systems like the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and RailMadad. This will allow citizens to access essential railway services in 22 Indian languages.
