Agartala, Jan 28 (NationPress) In a remarkable move aimed at fostering regional languages and enhancing digital engagement, the state government has teamed up with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to implement Bhashini, an AI-powered language translation tool.

The Bhashini initiative intends to tackle language barriers, particularly in rural and tribal regions of Tripura, where numerous residents encounter difficulties navigating software systems that predominantly operate in English or Hindi.

The formal agreement was executed in the presence of Chief Minister Manik Saha.

By incorporating the AI-powered tool into governmental services such as the CM Helpline, Amar Sarkar app, eVidhan, and Kisan Sahayata App, the state aspires to enhance multilingual communication and improve public service delivery, as stated by the Ministry of Electronics and IT.

“Integrating Bhashini into Tripura's e-governance framework will help close the digital gap, offer affordable translations, promote inclusive policy implementation, and strengthen regional identity,” remarked the ministry.

Beyond governance, Bhashini can also be utilized in the education sector to facilitate multilingual learning tools.

For law enforcement, the initiative can assist in translating FIRs and enabling voice-based data entry for the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) platform.

Tripura has emerged as the first state in the northeastern region, the first in eastern India, and the eighth state in the nation to formalize an MoU with the Bhashini initiative.

In a related development, the IT Ministry has adopted Bhashini at the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj to improve accessibility in 11 languages. At the Mahakumbh, devotees can report lost/found items using voice in their native languages and utilize the platform for real-time text/voice translations for seamless communication.

It also offers multilingual chatbot support for inquiries and kiosk navigation, as indicated in the statement.

Bhashini will help diminish the digital divide by facilitating internet access in the regional and local languages of Tripura.
