New Delhi/Agartala, May 23 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, declared on Friday that the state is actively constructing dedicated infrastructure to facilitate the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G networks.
While addressing the Rising Northeast Investors Summit-2025 in Delhi, he revealed that land has been allocated for data centers, including one for Airtel, which will function as a central hub for the eastern and northeastern sectors of India, specifically in Agartala.
“The eight states of the east, which I refer to as Ashtalakshmi, are endowed with stunning natural landscapes and rich resources. They embody Goddess Lakshmi, representing diverse blessings of wealth, knowledge, strength, and prosperity,” Saha stated.
He commended the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) for hosting the two-day summit, which aims to present the northeast as a promising area for investment, uniting crucial stakeholders, investors, and policymakers on a single platform.
Saha emphasized that while 5G enables rapid information transmission with minimal latency, AI alleviates operational complexities through effective algorithms that automate numerous processes, enhancing speed, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
“The relationship between 5G and AI is symbiotic. As AI evolves, connectivity costs continue to decrease. The merger of these technologies goes beyond speed; it addresses the requirements of next-generation activities. The dynamic duo of 5G and AI opens doors to greater innovation and intriguing applications across various sectors,” Saha explained.
He noted that embracing AI and 5G will unveil new opportunities for growth, innovation, and prosperity. The Chief Minister also highlighted that Tripura has made notable strides in 5G implementation, with all towns and 583 villages now connected.
“Tripura has established policies to bolster telecommunications, including the Information Technology Policy 2022 and Data Center Policy 2021,” he added.
Saha shared that the Tripura government recently conducted a workshop on AI aimed at promoting good governance by enhancing transparency, efficiency, and impact, in partnership with the National e-Governance Division and the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The state has adopted a paperless administration approach, significantly reducing the time taken to process files from nine days to three days, saving over Rs 50 crore annually, he mentioned.
He remarked that the digital transformation has improved transparency, efficiency, and accountability within the administration, stating: “As we advance, we intend to harness AI and 5G to foster growth, innovation, and prosperity across all northeastern states. This includes launching single-window digital platforms for easier access to public services and initiating department-specific AI pilot projects to showcase AI's potential across various divisions.”
