Agartala, May 29 (NationPress) Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday underscored the importance of technology-driven agricultural practices to transform Tripura into a surplus state in food production.
Inaugurating the 15-day long state-level 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan' from Bishramganj in Sepahijala district, the Chief Minister stated that the widespread adoption of drones, Artificial Intelligence, and other contemporary technologies can significantly enhance food production diversity, which in turn would greatly improve farmers' incomes.
He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ongoing initiatives are focused on elevating farmers' incomes, safeguarding the environment, and achieving sustainable food self-sufficiency through advanced technology and scientific methods in agriculture.
"Aligned with this vision, we have initiated the state-level 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan'. During this campaign from May 29 to June 12, farmers will receive direct information about new agricultural technologies and government schemes. Furthermore, feedback from farmers and innovative farming methods will be documented," CM Saha added.
Highlighting the recent 'Rising North East Investors Summit 2025' held in New Delhi, the Chief Minister mentioned that agreements were signed to secure over Rs 30,000 crore in investments across the eight northeastern states, with Tripura attracting an impressive Rs 15,646 crore.
CM Saha noted that Prime Minister Modi has outlined six strategies to boost food production nationally, which include enhancing farming diversity, food processing, reducing losses, supporting farmers, employing technologies, and adding value.
With 4.72 lakh farmers now in Tripura, the Chief Minister reported that farmers' monthly income has risen to Rs 13,590 from Rs 6,580 in the 2015-16 financial year.
He also mentioned that the state government has allocated Rs 303.42 crore for the development of infrastructure in 144 markets across Tripura.
According to the Chief Minister, Tripura boasts the second highest GDP and per capita income among the eight northeastern states.
State Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath also addressed the audience at the launch of the 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan'.
