Mumbai, April 24 (NationPress) Following his roles in Mirzapur, Dahaad, and IC814, actor Vijay Varma is gearing up for another thrilling web series, Matka King.
As the production team concluded the shooting of the series, Vijay celebrated the moment by posting a photo on his Instagram stories featuring a custom-designed matka-shaped cake, captioning it, “Matka King Wrapped!”
Directed by the acclaimed filmmaker of Sairat and Fandry, Nagraj Manjule, Matka King is set against the backdrop of the gritty streets of 1960s Mumbai.
This series is anticipated to narrate the story of an ambitious cotton trader in Mumbai who introduces a new gambling phenomenon known as Matka, revolutionizing a domain that was once exclusive to the affluent.
For those unfamiliar, Matka originally involved wagering on the opening and closing prices of cotton from the New York Cotton Exchange to the Bombay Cotton Exchange. By the 1960s, the betting method evolved, incorporating random number generation techniques, including drawing slips from a matka.
With Vijay in the leading role, the web series will also showcase Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Gulshan Grover, and Siddharth Jadhav in pivotal roles, among others.
