Mumbai, Nov 20 (NationPress) Actor Vipin Sharma has candidly discussed his struggles with typecasting, explaining how this experience posed significant challenges for him on both personal and professional levels.
In a revealing interview with IANS, the actor renowned for his role in Taare Zameen Par recounted a challenging period of four to five years where he was consistently offered similar roles, resulting in typecasting. Vipin acknowledged that it required immense inner strength and mental fortitude to maintain his motivation during this time.
When queried about whether he encountered new opportunities or hurdles following his success in Taare Zameen Par, Vipin stated, “I faced typecasting for four to five years. It was difficult. I had to do a lot of mental work. But gradually, I performed varied roles, and that changed perceptions. I never stopped working or loving my craft.”
Discussing whether his choice of diverse genres was intentional, he explained that his work spans across horror, time travel, and drama. “It came naturally. People see your work and feel you suit certain roles. It works both ways. Sometimes you get work through your work, sometimes you approach. For example, I wasn’t initially part of Shahid. One day I met Anshul Mehta and mentioned my interest in his film. That’s how I became part of it.”
Additionally, when asked about his perspective on the industry's evolution, the Gangs of Wasseypur actor indicated that the growth has been impressive, with new shows, innovative writers, fresh directors, and talented cinematographers all gaining opportunities to showcase their work. He credited OTT platforms for significantly altering the landscape — without them, many talents would have faced lengthy waits for opportunities. He referred to OTT as a “beautiful blessing” that has opened doors for numerous artists.
Vipin Sharma noted, “It is wonderful. New shows, new writers, new directors, new cinematographers — everyone is getting opportunities. Without OTT, people would have had to wait years. OTT is a beautiful blessing.”
