Mumbai, Dec 16 (NationPress) Reports regarding the passing of the legendary tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain, which were first confirmed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting alongside various sources, now seem to be incorrect and misleading.

As the news circulated swiftly, an X user claiming to be Ustad Zakir Hussain's nephew stated: "I am Zakir Hussain's nephew and he is alive. We request for prayers for my Uncle’s well-being. Please help eliminate this misinformation. He is in a serious condition and we urge all his fans globally to pray for his recovery."

Another report referenced his sister, Khurshid Aalia, affirming that Zakir Hussain is alive but in a very critical state.

Prior reports indicated that Zakir Hussain had passed away at a hospital in San Francisco due to heart complications.

News of Zakir Hussain’s death was also disseminated by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Numerous leaders, including Amit Shah and Rahul Gandhi, shared condolence messages for him.

Previously, Hussain's manager Nirmala Bachani had informed that Zakir Hussain was admitted to a San Francisco hospital following heart-related issues.

Ustad Zakir Hussain, a celebrated tabla artist, was born on March 9, 1951, in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

As the eldest son of the legendary tabla player Allah Rakha, he was drawn to music from an early age. He completed his early education at St. Michael's High School in Mahim, Mumbai, and later graduated from St. Xavier's College.

Hussain is married to Antonia Minnecola, a Kathak dancer and educator. They have two daughters, Anisa Qureshi and Isabella Qureshi.

Zakir Hussain has also appeared in several films, including 'Saaz' and 'Heat and Dust'. His latest film, 'Monkey Man', will be released in 2024.

It is reported that he was once offered the role of Salim in 'Mughal-E-Azam', which eventually went to Dilip Kumar.
