Has Zeenat Aman Acknowledged Her Role in Perpetuating Unrealistic Romance?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 4 (NationPress) Veteran actress Zeenat Aman took a moment to reflect on the evolution of how Hindi cinema has portrayed its heroines between her iconic films, "Dostana" and "Teesri Ankh".
While revisiting some scenes from her earlier works, Zeenat noticed an intriguing contrast.
She remarked, "Just a few weeks ago, I was depicted as a victim of eve-teasing and slut-shaming by Amitji's character in a clip from Dostana. This week, I can be seen as the aggressor toward Dharmji's character in Teesri Ankh! (sic)"
In her recent Instagram update, Zeenat expressed her astonishment at the drastic changes that occurred in such a brief timeframe.
"Did the portrayal of Hindi cinema heroines really shift so dramatically in just two years? It's hard to say, but this scene certainly flips the traditional gender roles. Here, Dharmji's Ashok is portrayed as naive and overwhelmed, while my Barkha is bold and rather inappropriate! She actively pursues him, making him the unwilling target of her affection."
The seasoned actress emphasized that the disparity in reactions to these scenes stems from conventional role reversals.
"I cannot condone Barkha's methods, just as I found Inspector Vijay's approach unacceptable! While playful banter and mischief can be delightful in courtship, our industry sometimes crosses the line into problematic territory."
Zeenat also pointed out that numerous films romanticize obsession and unhealthy infatuation instead of depicting genuine love, a concept she admits to having contributed to.
"I now realize that I played a part in spreading the absurd notion of romance that Bollywood has disseminated to audiences far and wide. This is my small attempt to address it. Let me be clear: in relationships, consent is non-negotiable, and mutual respect is essential. Trust me, I learned this the hard way," she concluded her post.
